Toto Wolff is in final negotiations to offload a portion of his ownership stake in the Mercedes F1 outfit.

This transaction estimates the Mercedes team at £4.6bn – an unprecedented figure for an F1 team – after the McLaren team were valued at £3.5bn in a change of ownership structure last September.

Wolff, who holds one-third of the Mercedes F1 operation, plans to divest a shareholding approximately 5%.

The 53-year-old would stay on as team boss and CEO should the deal proceed.

Shareholder Breakdown

Remaining partners in Mercedes F1 are Mercedes-Benz and industrial group Ineos, who each also own a third of the enterprise.

An official representative stated: "We are providing no comment on the matter. The governance of Mercedes F1 stays unchanged, and each shareholder are dedicated to continued achievements of the brand in F1."

Financial Increase

The deal signifies a significant increase in worth of Mercedes F1 after Ineos bought its share for £208 million in 2022.

The rise reflects the expansion in market values of F1 teams in the past few years due to the increasing appeal of Formula 1 globally.

This trend was evident with the success of the Formula 1 film featuring Brad Pitt, which debuted in summer 2023 and has grossed more than $630m (£458 million) at cinemas worldwide.

It is the actor's top-grossing film and the highest-earning sports film to date.

Current Standings

Mercedes are runner-up in the team standings, trailing McLaren Racing, with three Grands Prix left this season.

Their lead driver British driver George Russell has secured victory in 2 of the 21 grands prix so far and is in fourth place in the individual standings after McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

The team won a unprecedented eight consecutive team titles and seven drivers' titles, six for Lewis Hamilton and one for Nico Rosberg, between 2014 to 2021.
